Background Information

Eneclann is a Trinity College Dublin campus company providing a range of professional services in the historical, heritage, archive and records management sectors. Founded by history graduates Brian Donovan and Fiona Fitzsimons, Eneclann was accredited as a Trinity College campus company in 1998. Also in that year Eneclann won first prize in a campus company development award sponsored by UCD and the Dublin Business Innovation Centre.

 

Starting from a core business of historical research consultancy, Eneclann now has three distinct areas of business operations:

Historical Research
Eneclann employs professional historians, genealogists and archivists who combine an expert research methodology with a detailed knowledge of the sources to produce a very high standard of research. The scope of Eneclann’s research consultancy ranges from family history and individual house histories through to large heritage or historical research projects. Historical research

Eneclann is Ireland’s leading historical electronic publishing company. We have brought together the specialist skills of professional historians, genealogists, archivists, software developers and publishers, to provide historical data on CD- Rom and in digitised format for on-line publication. Eneclann is also Ireland's leading specialists in the digitisation/scanning of historical records.

Eneclann is Ireland’s largest Archival and Records Management Consultancy. We provide professional services and consultancy to the government, corporate and heritage sectors. With recent legislation on data protection, freedom of information and corporate governance, professional records management has become a key issue for all organisations.

Eneclann has established strategic partnerships in the key areas of electronic publishing and online research.

 

Origins.net specialises in providing high quality genealogy services on the Internet. Founded in 1997, it has been the pioneer of pay-per-view web databases. Scots Origins, launched in 1998, was the first service providing Internet access to governmental genealogical records. English Origins (in association with the Society of Genealogists) followed in 2001. Eneclann is the Irish partner for www.irishorigins.com

 

Archive CD Books was founded to make reproductions of old books, documents and maps available on CD. The Archive CD Books Project was established in the UK in 2000 by Rod Neep, it has now spread to several countries including Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and the US. The project also aims to provide assistance to libraries and archives to renovate old books in their collections, and to donate books to their collections where they will be preserved for future generations. What does Eneclann mean?

Eneclann [en’eklaN]
The honour price ascribed to an individual as a measure of his/her status, recorded in the early Irish Law tracts. The honour price had to be paid for any major offence committed against an individual, e.g. murder, satire, serious injury, refusal of hospitality, theft, violation of protection etc. Corpus Juris Hiberniae 347.27-348.11.
