Frequently
Asked Questions
Q. Plug-in for Cantwell's
Memorials of the Dead.
If you are having problems with the plug-in for the Memorials
of the Dead by Brian J. Cantwell, released in December 2005,
then you should download the following zip file. This file
contains a new installer for the plug-in. Once the file is
unzipped, run Setup.exe and follow the instructions to remove
the plug-in. Then run Setup.exe again and follow the instructions
to install it again. This should resolve any problems you
are experiencing with incorrect reporting of hits when you
carry out a search.
Download BJC.Zip
Q. Network Protocols
LivePublish Personal Edition
requires that your PC has installed the network protocol called
TCP/IP and Dial-up Networking. These should already be installed
if you use your PC to connect to the Internet using a modem
and telephone connection. To install TCP/IP go to the Network
icon in Control Panel. Then select 'add' and 'protocol'. TCP/IP
is listed under Microsoft. To install Dial-up Networking go
to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Select Windows Setup,
and then select 'Communications'. You should then check the
box for Dial-up Networking and click OK. You will then be
asked for your Windows disk to complete installation.
Q. Supported Web
Browsers
LivePublish has been designed
for recent versions of web browsers by Microsoft and Netscape.
If you do not have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or Netscape
Navigator 4.x or higher, you may download a copy of Internet
Explorer 5 from the CD you bought from us. Just copy the 'browser'
folder on the CD to your hard drive. Then open this 'browser'
folder on your hard drive and double click ‘ie5setup.exe’.
Q. Cookies
Your browser's "cookies"
feature must be enabled. This is the normal setting for browsers.
To find out how to be sure that cookies are enabled, please
refer to your browser's Help Menu. LivePublish cannot be used
without this feature enabled.
Q. AOL Users
Some older versions of AOL web broswers
do not use the network protocol TCP/IP. See the section above
on Network Protocols to resolve this issue
Q. Problems accessing
or printing the maps on the 1851 Dublin City Census CD
Grafixview, the programme
used to view the maps, has been known to conflict with certain
versions of Internet Explorer. The quickest resolution to
this problem is to load the individual map files with a graphics
programme like Paint Shop Pro. You can get a free trial version
of PSP at this this_link.
The individual map files are stored as TIF or JPG files in
the folder called 'Maps' which can be found on the CD in the
'edocs2' folder. Just open these files in PSP and zoom in,
crop and print as desired.
Q. Problems with
DSL and cable connections
Some users have reported
problems using our Live Publish CDs when their Internet connection
is via a DSL or cable connection. In every instance to date
these conflicts are caused by the security settings on the
PC or the DSL firewall. Security settings should be set to
medium, and you may need to make sure the DSL firewall is
set to allow you to access your CD-ROM drive.
Q. Problems with
Internet Explorer version 6, Office XP and Windows XP
The new XP range of products
released by Microsoft, including IE 6, interfere with the
way our CDs interact with your PC. There are two things you
will need to do to get around this problem. Firstly make sure
you have the most recent Service Pack for Windows XP. To do
this select Windows Update from Control Panel which will bring
you to the Microsoft web site where you will find and can
download this Service Pack. The second thing you need to do
is download and install a patch we have developed. This patch
is available by clicking
here.
