Technical Support
The following information
is designed for users who have experienced problems using
our Live Publish CD-ROMs (Index of Wills, O'Brien Petition
or 1851 Dublin City Census) with either Windows XP, Office
XP or Internet Explorer version 6 or higher.
There are two tasks you
may need to do to resolve this. If you are running the Windows
XP operating system then you will need to download the most
recent Service Pack for XP. To do this select Windows Update
from Control Panel which will bring you online to the Microsoft
web site to download this patch. However, if you are running
Office XP or Internet Explorer version 6 on an earlier operating
system, you will need to make sure you have the most recent
Service Pack for these programmes following the same method.
Your next task will be
to download and install a patch we have developed to resolve
errors in the Windows XP Registry. Before you download this
patch it is advisable to make a backup of your system settings.
The only potential problem we have identified with installing
this patch will arise if your copy of Internet Explorer is
not kept on the C drive. Our patch assumes that your copy
of IE is stored on the C drive.
If your copy of Internet
Explorer is stored on your C: drive, then you should download
the following file. Download_here.
Save this file on your hard drive, then unzip this file on
your hard drive, and then run the unzipped Registry file.
It will merge some data to your Registry after which you may
need to reboot your PC.
