HISTORICAL & HERITAGE CONSULTANCY

Eneclann has the expertise and experience to carry out heritage or historical consultancy for your organisation or agency. We combine academic excellence with project management skills to ensure the delivery of your project.

Some examples of projects we have worked on in the past.

Belvedere Book

The Board of Management of Belvedere College commissioned Eneclann to create a manuscript as a testament to the legacy of the Jesuit priests to Belvedere since 1832. The purpose was to create a manuscript book suitable for presentation and ultimately for long-term preservation in an archive. The result is a magnificent manuscript book hand bound in fine leather, which draws on the finest traditions of calligraphy and book binding in Ireland. more

The Irish Genealogy Project

Eneclann conducted an audit of the accuracy of the database of Parish Records put together by the Irish Genealogical Project. IGL Ltd (A Semi-State agency set up to promote the genealogy industry in Ireland). This involved the formulation of a mathematically sound process for taking and analysing samples of data from 32 Heritage Centres throughout Ireland. Eneclann had teams working in the National Library as well as on site at the centres.

At the end of the project Eneclann provided a comprehensive report on the accuracy of the database to date, estimated times to enter remaining information and the need to monitor/supervise future inputting. Eneclann made recommendations in two further reports on the technical infrastructure and the IT options for the IGP centres.

The National Archives

Eneclann acted as content providers and publishers for the National Archives’ Millennium Project: Counties in Time, a CD-ROM containing representative documents from all 32 Counties covering 500 years of Irish History.

The CD includes digital photographs and scans of documents, transcripts, county histories and commentaries and was distributed to every school in the country. more

Ballymun Regeneration Project

In 2000 the Ballymun Regeneration Project commissioned an extensive historical research of the surrounding area from the beginning of the seventeenth century right through the building of the Ballymun Estate in the 1960s, up to 1997 and the beginning of the re-development. The History of Ballymun took over a year to write and is published in two volumes.

Running alongside the historical research was an Oral History project which Eneclann managed in conjunction with Ballymun Regeneration Ltd. This involved interviewing a large number of people who had lived in Ballymun from the time of the development in the 1960s. This oral history is now available at the Ballymun Community Archive.

OPW - Flood Research Project

The OPW contracted Eneclann to carry out research on a series of flooding incidents from the 1880s up to 2003/4. The project involved the tracking and recording of every reference to each of the flood incidences in all local and national newspapers. Eneclann designed the methodology to use on the project and deployed a team of seven historical researchers and archivists to carry out the research.
